The new Retrofit Assessor Standard BS 40104:2024 - Retrofit assessment for domestic dwellings – Code of Practice is now Published for National Consultation
 
This standard has taken 2 years and 4 months to complete. It has been an in-depth project with a cross-sector group of experts feeding in huge amounts. The standard covers all aspects of pre-retrofit assessment from desktop work, onsite work, reporting and even a data collection scheme.

The standard has been developed to improve assessments of existing dwellings and bring a consistent approach to this key step in the retrofit journey, all your future decisions on retrofit projects need a firm foundation with which to provide the information to enable the right retrofit approach to each dwelling, get the first part wrong and every decision after this will be wrong.

This British Standard provides recommendations and guidance for the retrofit assessment of domestic dwellings in the UK. 

This British Standard covers:  

a)    context assessment;

b)    condition assessment;

c)     ventilation assessment;

d)    occupancy assessment;

e)    energy performance assessment;

f)       site specific context assessment;

g)    significance assessment;

h)    reporting and lodgement; and

i)       competencies. 

This British Standard is intended for use by assessors, building surveyors, designers, coordinators of retrofit programmes and other professionals to assess dwellings prior to retrofit.

This British Standard might be of interest to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the construction field and to landlords.

This British Standard does not cover fire, electrical and gas safety, and the structural elements of dwellings.

This is at draft stage and ready for public comment. You are therefore invited, and encouraged, to read the draft and to provide direct feedback / comment on it before 22nd September 2024.
